Today I was craving some unique flavors and decided to create a dish inspired by Asian cuisine. We have soy allergies in this family and it is nearly impossible to find any Asian-inspired recipes that are free of soy sauce. This yummy side salad is super simple to toss together and totally allergy-friendly. I packed it with bold flavors, like fresh ginger, toasted sesame, lemon and coconut aminos (you won't even miss the soy sauce!). It can be eaten by itself or made into a dinner by throwing it over rice and adding a protein. It's totally allergy-friendly and adds tasty variety to a restricted diet. I have included an image below of a brand of allergy-friendly coconut aminos that I prefer to use in this recipe. Enjoy!

Soy-Free Ginger Sesame Slaw
• 1 bunch (about 6) scallions, trimmed and sliced thin
• 2 (16 ounce) bags coleslaw mix (just shredded cabbage & carrots)
• 1/3 of a red onion, diced (about 1/2 cup)
• 1/4 cup coconut aminos (see below for product recommendation)
• 1/4 cup lemon juice, squeezed from fresh lemon
• 1/4 cup grapeseed oil
• 2 tablespoons fresh ginger, grated or finely diced
• 2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
• 2 tablespoons coconut palm sugar
• 2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil
• 2 teaspoons sesame seeds, plus extra for garnish
• 1 teaspoon Himilayan salt
• 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
1. In large mixing bowl, toss together the coleslaw mix, scallions, and red onion. Set aside.
2. Stir the remaining ingredients together in a mixing bowl to make the dressing.
3. Just before serving, pour the dressing over the slaw mixture and toss to combine. Sprinkle with sesame seeds for garnish, if desired.
(This dish can be made in advance. Simply cover the coleslaw mix before adding any dressing and refrigerate. Store the dressing in a seperate covered jar in the refrigerator until ready to serve. Bring ingredients back to room temperature and combine to serve.)

I prefer to use Bragg Organic Coconut Aminos (pictured below) in this recipe. It is a yummy, allergy-friendly alternative to soy sauce and I can usually find it at my local grocery store.
