Create fun juice mixes for your toddlers with corn allergies!

My little guy seems to love drinking everything out of a straw - it makes hydrating very fun for him. I have searched the shelves high and low (even at specialty health food stores) and have not been able to find any juice boxes that are free from ascorbic acid, an ingredient made from corn. You will find ascorbic acid in so many things because it is used to add vitamin C. Hidden ingredients such as 'natural flavors' and 'citric acid' are also made from corn. It really seems like corn is in everything at the grocery store!

I began having luck buying glass bottles of juice that I found at my local grocery stores. Their labels usually have only one ingredient: the fruit that they are made from (but be sure to always check your labels because some have added ingredients!) I decided that I was going to make my toddler his own fruit juice concoctions from these different juices by mixing them together.

I mix apple, grape, cherry, pineapple, ginger & beet, and the list goes on. Since these juices are very pure and usually more potent, I dilute them a bit. I also searched for a reusable juice box and found this really cute one on Amazon called Drink in the Box. Each day, my son gets to have his very own personal juice box with a fun new flavor combination.

I have found that the key to feeding children with allergies is keeping mealtime fun and interesting. It is certainly not an easy task, especially since ingredient options are so limited and you pretty much have to make everything from scratch (which is time consuming and exhausting!). Little tricks like using cute reusable juice boxes and plating food in creative ways can get your little one excited to eat and ensure that they are getting the nutrients they need.

I hope this idea helps some of you moms raising children with allergies!
